How I can help from first idea to a working product.
I’m a product design leader who defines, validates and builds new products and businesses. I start with people and the problem, then look at the whole system around them, from journeys and service maps to value chains and supply chains, to find where change will make the biggest difference. Then I lead the work from zero to one, through scale and into continuous improvement.
Where I come in
Ideation
Find the right opportunity
“We know something needs to change, but not what. Or our strategy needs sharpening.”
I run workshops and map journeys, services, value chains and supply chains to find where change will pay off. I make sure user needs, technical requirements and the business opportunity line up, and that there’s a real market for what we define.
Zero to one
Prove it, then build it
“We have an idea and need to know it will work before we commit to building it.”
I validate and define how the opportunity should work, and test it broadly so you build with confidence. Then I take it from zero to one with product, engineering and marketing, including pricing, growth and go-to-market.
Platform
Structure the product around its users
“Our product works, but it isn’t built around how our customers actually work.”
I restructure products around real user needs, create design systems and build scalable, flexible platforms that can change direction when the problem changes. Software is never done, so the work keeps being validated.
Scale
Grow it and keep improving
“People are using it. Now we need to understand the market and scale.”
As data starts to flow, I turn the qualitative opportunities we defined into measurable ones, moving the product from qualitative to quantitative decisions and into continuous improvement.
Across every stage
At the edge of new technology
I’m at my best where design, business and technology meet, turning emerging technology into real products rather than pilots that stall, whether that’s a new opportunity or a simpler, faster process. I defined FYLD, an AI-based service for field workers that has since raised more than $79m. At BCG Digital Ventures we brought new technology into large corporates to transform how they work. At TrueLayer I used open banking data to automate credit affordability checks, and at Cisco and NDS I applied emerging technology to pay TV and to big problems for clients including IKEA, NBA and Disney. I can talk in depth about the latest technology, AI included, and push engineering teams to make it real.
Building teams
I joined BCG Digital Ventures when the London design team was around five people and grew it to 50, leading the design cohort and running scoping, sales, project definition, staffing and delivery. At TrueLayer I grew the team from around 16 to 25.
Fast, aligned collaboration
I work in fast sprints to real deadlines with product and engineering, and keep the work aligned with leadership and the business plan. I question the route to market, help define go-to-market and keep the focus on what will make money.
Ways to work together
Workshops and sprints
Short, focused work to define a strategy, an opportunity or a proposition, and to get everyone aligned behind it.
Fractional leadership
Senior design leadership, part-time or interim, for as long as you need it. I define the product with you and lead the team that builds it.
Your first design hire
If you have product managers and engineers but no one with design expertise, I can define the product with you, then help you decide what design team you need to take it to market.
Full-time roles
I’m also open to the right full-time role: an interesting problem where we define a new product, often with new technology, then build it and refine it until it works.
“I turn ambiguity into clear opportunities, propositions and products, from zero-to-one through launch, scale and organisational change.”
The full story, role by role, is in my CV.
